Back To School

Although it's a heatwave in Austin (110s the last 2 days, oucha!) my kiddos headed back to school last week. I'm the queen of happy and sad at the same time. I think that school is great and they LOVE it, but I also love having my buddies around all the time. Still, that last week before school started, the kids logged record hours watching SpongeBob and playing on Poptropica. It was just time to get back on a routine. So back they went!

It's so crazy that I have TWO kids in school this year! Mason was really, really excited to be joining Maya at school.

The big 2nd grader! So crazy! I can't believe she's so old already. She has a wonderful teacher who is perfect for Maya! And she has several of her favorite friends in class with her, too. I think she's going to have a really fun year.

Say cheese! This boy was so excited and only a little bit nervous.

He has a really super sweet teacher, too. He's already having the best time. And he was happy & relieved to find several familiar faces in his class. He did great last week...much better than I expected.

The requisite backpack shots! Mason is all about characters. Everything's Cars or Mario brothes. And Maya LOVES purple!

We had such a fun summer. I will miss having Maya around full time. She's full of big ideas and always gets everyone in on her schemes. She's the best big sister in the world! She's super helpful to me and loves to learn and do whatever I'm doing. All 3 of her younger siblings adore her.

And I will definitely miss having this guy home with me. Mason has so much going on in that little head of his, he can hardly get it all out fast enough. He's so fun to talk to. Mason is very concerned about people's feelings and works really hard to take care of his little brother and sister. I know he'll do great in Kindergarten!

I have to say, though, as much as I miss my big kids, I'm having so much fun being home with just these 2 little guys. We've pulled out all the board books and the wooden puzzles and been doing little kid stuff for a change! Simon works hard to keep me amused...

...as does my little Goose. She's really come out of her shell lately. She's such a funny girl, full of spunk and mischief. It's so fun to get to know who she really is as she grows up a bit. She's talking more...saying Mama, Dada, Grandma, Grandpa, Book, Shoe, Uh-oh, Out and Ouch. It's so cute to hear her little voice and watch her toddle around.

We've been doing lots of morning bath time lately. It's too hot to play outside much, so they're happy to play and splash for quite a while. Simon especially is very hard to coax out of the bath tub. Today he was so cold his lips were blue, but "I wan stay in MORN!". Eventually I wrestled him out and wrapped him up on a blanket to warm up. Silly goose.

Thank goodness I still have my 2 little buddies to keep me company. I told Chris that I don't know what I'll do when I don't have a little friend to pick up and take everywhere with me...I love these little guys!

Hard to take in that you have a 2nd grader(??!!) and a kindergartener -- how did that happen, anyhow?

Yay for them -- so fun to see them so happy about what's going on in their lives, and yay for some time with the littles, too! I love them all.

I *love* Mason's grin! And I'm so glad you still have Simon and Lucy to hang out with. It is fun to do "little kid" stuff while the older ones are out and about. You guys stay cool down there!

Man, I just love your blog! If I may ask, where did you score that Mario backpack? My son is starting preschool and dying for a mario backpack, but I can't find one anywhere!

Aw, thanks, Joanna! The Mario backpack was at Target. He got the lunch box, too! :)
